Our History

Roger has been delivering Motor City Art Tours since he was an art student at Wayne State University in the 1990's. His welcoming and approachable nature has seen him introducing the art scene to students, fellow art teachers, and others in Detroit ever since.

Motor City Art Tours grew out of Roger's irrepressible attitude of sharing and inclusivity. We would love to show you and your group around the Detroit arts scene. Join us for a tour - it will be a memorable day in the D that you won't forget.

Michigan Art Teacher of the Year (2022)

Roger (front, left in the picture above)  says his key for being a good art teacher was pushing his students to do their best and expand their horizons while allowing them to work on the projects they were passionate about.

"I think the biggest thing I strive to do is give students their own personal voice. Not all art needs to be pretty, but it all needs to be poignant and relevant to the person creating it. I very seldom give an assignment where I tell (a student) exactly what they need to do. I want them to do their own personal creating.”
